Honorable Michael A. L. Balboni, a New York State Senator for the 7th District, is Of Counsel to the firm. He has a strong background in both municipal law and negligence defense, and litigates on behalf of the firm's clients. Senator Balboni began his career in public service as Legislative Counsel to former Senator John R. Dunne, then as counsel to the New York State Judiciary Committee, and as legislative counsel to the Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate. In 1987, Mr. Balboni was appointed Deputy County Attorney in Nassau County where he served as legislative liaison and also represented the county's interests in litigation. In 1998, Senator Balboni was appointed vice chair of the Law and Justice Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and is currently the co-chairmen of the NCSL Task Force on Protecting Democracy. Senator Balboni also serves as a New York State representative to the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), and in 2001, received a fellowship from Flemming Fellows Leadership Institute. Senator Balboni has authored several Law Review articles, including two published in the Fordham Urban Law Journal, and is an adjunct professor of political science at Adelphi University. Elected to the New York State Senate in 1997, Senator Balboni is now serving his fourth term in the 7th Senate District after representing the 17th Assembly District for nearly eight years. Senator Balboni serves as chairman for the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security & Military Affairs. His standing committee assignments include; Labor, Aging, Children & Families, Environmental Conservation, Higher Education, Insurance, and Judiciary. Senator Balboni is admitted to practice in New York State and the United States District Court for the Eastern District. He is a graduate of Adelphi University and St. Johns University School of Law.
