About
Melissa Beth Brisman, Esq. is a distinguished attorney based in Montvale, NJ, specializing in adoption, insurance, and personal injury law. A Valedictorian graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and an honors graduate of Harvard Law School, Melissa is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Additionally, she is a certified public accountant, which enhances her comprehensive understanding of legal and financial matters. Since 1996, Melissa has been a trailblazer in the field of reproductive law, initially guiding her own journey to parenthood through gestational surrogacy. Her personal experiences as a mother of three — including twin boys and a daughter — fuel her empathy and compassion for intended parents navigating similar paths. Melissa's dedication to this cause has established her as a pioneering advocate for legal reforms in surrogacy and adoption. Her impressive legal achievements include being the first attorney to secure court orders for genetic parents to be listed on the original birth certificates of children born via gestational carriers in Maine and New Jersey. She has successfully argued landmark cases before the Supreme Court of Massachusetts and the State Supreme Court of New York, setting vital legal precedents in this evolving field. Melissa was also instrumental in the passage of the New Jersey Gestational Carrier Act in 2018, which she lobbied for alongside government officials and fellow attorneys. As a sought-after speaker, Melissa has presented at numerous prestigious conferences, including the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and the Donor Egg Conference. Her contributions extend beyond the courtroom; she has served on the boards of several influential organizations, including the American Fertility Association and Parents Via Egg Donation. Recognized for her advocacy, Melissa has received multiple awards, including the 2017 Advocacy Award from Path to Parenthood and the 2015 Infertility Hero Award. She has authored significant texts in the field of reproductive medicine and has even assisted the Taiwanese government in drafting surrogacy legislation. At her firm, Melissa B. Brisman, Esq., LLC, she drafts and negotiates contracts for various reproductive arrangements, offers legal guidance to international couples, and ensures that intended parents' rights are protected from the outset. With her extensive knowledge and approachable demeanor, Melissa Brisman continues to be a leading figure in helping families grow through adoption and assisted reproduction.
