Susan M. Reutershan is a seasoned land use attorney based in Bethesda, Maryland, at the esteemed law firm Lerch, Early & Brewer. With a wealth of experience, she adeptly represents a diverse clientele, including commercial and residential developers, individual landowners, corporations, nonprofits, and biotechnology firms across all facets of land use and development throughout Maryland. Leveraging her extensive knowledge in real estate law, Susan provides clients with insightful and practical legal guidance on complex land use matters. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of services, including rezonings, special use permits, variances, and preliminary subdivision plans. Additionally, she navigates comprehensive sketch plans, project plans, site plans, and historic preservation issues, along with securing building and occupancy permits, addressing impact fees, and managing water and sewer category changes. Her practice also covers master plans, annexations, vested rights, adequacy of public facilities, and zoning text amendments. Susan represents clients before various administrative bodies at the state, county, and municipal levels in Maryland, as well as in appellate proceedings before the Maryland Circuit Courts and the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and Court of Appeals. Susan earned her Bachelor of Arts with high honors from the University of Rhode Island before relocating to the Washington metropolitan area to pursue her Juris Doctor at the Washington College of Law of American University. She began her legal career at a Montgomery County land use law firm, where she practiced for many years as a partner and associate. Prior to joining Lerch, Early & Brewer, she served as senior counsel at a prominent downtown D.C. law firm. An active member of the legal community, Susan has participated in numerous local seminar panels and has served as a panelist at the National Association of Homebuilders’ national convention. She occasionally guest lectures at the Washington College of Law and holds board positions with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County and Maryland Suburban Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW). Additionally, she is engaged with the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce and the Maryland Building Industry Association. Originally from Rhode Island, Susan enjoys swimming, reading, playing word games, and traveling with her husband and two adult sons.
