Samuel Edward Surface is a dedicated attorney based in Stillwater, Minnesota, with deep roots in Washington County and the St. Croix Valley area. He earned his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in 2001, where he actively participated in Moot Court and served on the Law Review. Following his graduation, Sam gained invaluable experience as a judicial clerk for The Honorable Kenneth J. Maas in the Washington County District Court and The Honorable Stephen M. Halsey in the Wright County District Court. This judicial experience has profoundly shaped his legal practice. After his clerkships, Sam spent two years as an associate at Anastasi and Associates in Stillwater, where he developed expertise in complex litigation, debt collection, mechanics liens, and real estate law. In the summer of 2004, he established his own practice, further expanding his areas of focus to include criminal defense, DWI and DUI defense, and family law. Sam is an active member of the Minnesota Bar Association and the Washington County Bar Association, where he serves on the Washington County District Court - Criminal Committee, which is responsible for formulating courthouse policies and addressing criminal court matters. Additionally, he volunteers with Washington County Legal Assistance. Outside of his legal work, Sam is an avid sports enthusiast, closely following Gopher Basketball and the Minnesota Twins, and enjoys biking, swimming, golfing, and curling in his leisure time.
