Samantha Baker earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan in 2014. She attended law school at Wayne State University while working part-time at a youth diversion program to help juvenile offenders avoid the criminal justice system. During her law school career, Samantha completed an externship at the State Appellate Defender Office where she assisted in the resentencing of a juvenile lifer. She was also a student attorney in the Wayne Law Asylum and Immigration Clinic where she provided legal representation for immigrants. During her last year of law school, Samantha worked as a law clerk at the Law Offices of David S. Steingold. Samantha has worked on a variety of cases including both federal and state criminal cases, trials, appeals, and other post-conviction proceedings. She has also provided substantial assistance in two massive class action suits against the Michigan Department of Corrections. Samantha has won multiple Motions for Compassionate Release throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and assisting incarcerated clients who were at high risk of death from COVID-19 and are no longer a risk to the community.
