Michael graduated Magna Cum Laude from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and earned his law degree from the University of South Dakota, where he was recognized on the dean’s list and published in the South Dakota Law Review. Following law school, he had the honor of clerking for the Honorable Judge Steven Zinter, further honing his legal skills before establishing his practice in Rapid City in 2001. Over nearly two decades, Michael has served as lead counsel in numerous divorce and civil litigation cases, handling matters involving substantial assets, alimony, child support, and the division of marital property. His extensive experience in court and jury trials throughout South Dakota covers a wide array of legal challenges, including contract disputes and personal injury cases, making him a reliable advocate for his clients in contentious situations. Outside the courtroom, Michael values a balanced life, enjoying quality time with his wife, Cathy—a corporate attorney at Black Hills Energy—and their two daughters. They relish outdoor activities such as boating, skiing, and biking in the beautiful Black Hills. As president of the gymnastics booster club, Michael actively supports his daughters’ interests and engages with the community.
