Michael P. O'Connell is a seasoned attorney based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, who brings an impressive 47 years of legal experience to his practice. A graduate of Belmont Abbey College with a B.A. in Political Science in 1968, Michael's commitment to service is evident from his time in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Counter-Intelligence Agent during the Vietnam War, earning an honorable discharge in 1971. After obtaining his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1975, Michael dedicated a significant portion of his career to public service, acting as a public defender for 15 years. His leadership skills shone through during his tenure as Chief Public Defender for Charleston County, as well as in his role as an Assistant Federal Public Defender. Michael also served as a hearing officer for the Occupational Safety and Health Division of the South Carolina Department of Labor, further broadening his legal expertise. In the early 1990s, he shared his knowledge as an adjunct professor of Political Science at The Citadel, enriching the minds of future leaders. Since transitioning to private practice in 1996, Michael has focused on Family Court cases and criminal defense, including DUI and DWI matters, both in state and federal courts.
