Joshua Lee Smith’s practice includes a variety of complex commercial real estate matters involving acquisitions and dispositions, permitting, leasing, environmental compliance and financing. His clients primarily consist of developers, corporations, and colleges and universities. He works closely with public utility companies on projects involving the siting, development and permitting of bulk power substations, high voltage transmission lines and operations centers. Josh serves as an expert zoning witness in hearings before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. Josh recently performed due diligence with respect to the permitting of 19 solar generation facility sites in Massachusetts for a major public utility, in what is one of the largest solar build outs in the state’s history, with 50,000 solar panels. Sites were located on both private and public land, and will generate an estimated 16 megawatts of energy, enough to provide electricity to 3,200 homes per year.
