After a decade of successful practice in accounting and management positions at various large public companies, he transitioned to law. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree and later earned a Master of Laws in Taxation (Tax LL.M.), positioning himself as a leading authority in tax-related legal matters. Licensed to practice law in both California and Washington State, Mr. McWilliams is also an active CPA in these regions. He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, where he represents clients in tax disputes, as well as before various courts in California and Washington. In addition to his litigation practice, he serves as Corporate Counsel for small businesses, offering expert guidance on corporate governance and compliance issues. In academia, Mr. McWilliams is an adjunct professor at California State University – Fullerton, where he teaches courses in federal tax planning, federal tax procedures, and business entities within the Graduate Masters in Taxation program. His commitment to education extends to advising on the tax curriculum at Colorado State University, where he contributes to the enhancement of the Graduate Tax Program. An active member of the legal community, Mr. McWilliams serves on the Corporate and Business Tax Committee for the State Bar of California and participates in the tax, estate, trust, and probate sections of the Orange County Bar Association. His recent expansion into King County, Washington, aligns with the growth of his Seattle practice, reflecting his dedication to serving clients across state lines.
