About
John B. Shook is a seasoned attorney and co-founder of Shook & Stone, Chtd., located in Las Vegas, NV. With over 18 years of experience, John serves as the lead trial counsel on many of the firm's most significant cases, specializing in insurance claims, medical malpractice, and personal injury litigation. He advocates for clients who have suffered injuries or loss due to defectively designed products, medical negligence, motor vehicle accidents, and insurance bad faith. As a member of the American Association for Justice and the American Bar Association, John is actively involved in the legal community. He has held leadership positions, including the Elected Chair of the Clients’ Security Fund for the State Bar of Nevada from 2009 to 2011. His commitment to mentorship is evident through his role in the State Bar of Nevada's Transitioning Into Practice program, where he guides newly licensed attorneys. John's contributions extend beyond individual cases; he has served on the Board of Governors for the Nevada Justice Association, where he was recognized for his role in enacting legislation that supports Nevada's injured and disabled. He is also a Colleague of the Nevada Law Foundation and a graduate of both the National Criminal Defense College and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. His expertise includes serving on the Nevada Medical Legal Screening Panel, which evaluates the merits of medical malpractice claims, and acting as an arbitrator for the Eighth Judicial District court-annexed arbitration program. John's commitment to client protection is reflected in his advocacy for legislation that requires insurance companies to inform injured victims when settlement drafts are issued, thus preventing potential exploitation by unscrupulous attorneys. Outside the courtroom, John and his wife, Julie Shook, a deputy district attorney with the Clark County District Attorney’s office, actively support various charitable organizations. Their philanthropic efforts include contributions to HELP of Southern Nevada, the Children’s Advocacy Project, the American Kidney Fund, and the KLUC annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive. As a member of Nevada’s Citizens for Justice, John has made significant contributions to ensure that the law serves to protect those who might otherwise lack a voice in society. Educationally, John holds a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma (1994) and a B.S. from Oklahoma State University (1991).
