Born and raised in Chula Vista, San Diego County, Janet Gutierrez graduated with honors from the University of California, San Diego in 2005, where she was awarded the Engelhorn Family Scholarship. She earned her Juris Doctor in 2009 from California Western School of Law where she was awarded the California Western Biodiversity Scholarship. While in law school, Janet gained diverse legal experience clerking at various San Diego firms across multiple practice areas, laying the groundwork for her own practice. In 2009, she founded Gutierrez & Associates, earning early recognition as one of San Diego's Top Young Attorneys in 2012 by the San Diego Daily Transcript, with repeat nominations in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, she was voted Top 5 for Bankruptcy Law in the San Diego Union Tribune's "Best of 2015," and was honored again in 2019 and 2020. In 2022, she was named San Diego’s Best for Bankruptcy Law by the San Diego Union Tribune. Today, Janet focuses primarily on family law, including divorce, legal separation, annulment, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, and domestic violence restraining orders. Under the mentorship of noted family law attorney Anton L. Georghiou, she continues to provide compassionate and strategic legal guidance to families navigating life’s most challenging moments.
