Jack Gross is a partner in our New York office. Mr. Gross is a 1980 graduate of Yeshiva University, summa cum laude, where he filled a number of literary positions and received various scholastic recognition awards; and a 1984 graduate of Hofstra University. While in law school, he participated in various moot court competitions and served as a contracts fellow. Prior to joining The Chartwell Law Offices, Mr. Gross was a partner with Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, where he oversaw the firm's commercial litigation practice and represented a major municipal authority in premises liability and police misconduct suits. He also devised defenses to suits against that municipality that were subsequently adopted throughout the firm. Mr. Gross concentrates his practice in the areas of products liability, commercial litigation, consumer law, construction law, personal injury and general negligence. Mr. Gross has successfully defended an international drug manufacturer in a multi-million dollar wrongful death action, and has successfully defended an international drug manufacturer in several multi-million dollar aminophylline actions, resulting in no payments by the manufacturer. He has also defended a major car manufacturer in a multi-million dollar wrongful death action resulting in no payment by the manufacturer and was national counsel for a Fortune 500 credit company. He has successfully represented manufacturers of DES, bulldozers, forklifts, air-bags, surgical implants, boilers, solenoid valves, baby bottles and ladders in high stakes product liability cases in state and federal court. Recently, Mr. Gross obtained summary judgment in a number of high exposure defense cases: one against a major landowner involving claims of electrocution to two workers; and another involving a claim of "special use" by that landowner. Mr. Gross also obtained summary judgment on a breach of contract claim by a merchant against a Fortune 500 credit card company and summary judgment on a "goods sold and delivered" claim on behalf of a major home shopping advertiser. Mr. Gross is a member of the New York Trial Lawyers Association and the New York Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in federal and state courts in New York and New Jersey and before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
