Gerard Michael Karam is the Co-Chair of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Group at Stevens & Lee, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He has effectively managed a variety of cases involving tax issues, healthcare fraud, business compliance, and the False Claims Act. During his tenure as U.S. Attorney, Mr. Karam spearheaded significant investigations and prosecutions related to healthcare fraud, tax evasion, bank fraud, and wire fraud, while also defending the United States in medical malpractice cases. He was instrumental in establishing the Middle District's first E-Litigation Unit, Civil Rights Unit, and Appellate Division, and served on the Attorney General’s Advisory Subcommittees on White Collar Crime, Civil Rights, and Controlled Substances. Before his appointment as U.S. Attorney, Mr. Karam was a distinguished litigator in private practice, successfully trying numerous cases across various legal disciplines. He has held key positions, including General Counsel to the Housing Authority of Lackawanna County and Chief Public Defender in Lackawanna County. A committed community leader, Mr. Karam serves on multiple boards, including the Boys and Girls Club of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where he has been president since 2017. He is actively involved in numerous legal associations and has previously held leadership roles in various educational and charitable organizations.
