From a young age, I was captivated by the idea of advocating for others, a passion that emerged when I was just seven years old. Perhaps it was the whimsical tales of Dr. Seuss that ignited my interest in law, or perhaps it was my innate desire to seek justice. Despite the challenges of education—like enduring four rigorous years of high school Latin under my mother’s watchful eye—I remained steadfast in my goal to become an attorney. Before embarking on my legal journey, I pursued a dual degree in Marketing and Finance, all while juggling small businesses that not only supported my education but also provided invaluable real-world experience. This entrepreneurial spirit laid the groundwork for my future as a legal professional. Law school was a transformative experience. With a demanding schedule that included morning classes, afternoon work at prestigious law firms, and late-night study sessions, I also found time to lead an organization called Student Defenders, advocating for students facing administrative challenges. As president of one of my law school's fraternities, I honed my leadership skills and built a robust network that would benefit my future practice. Upon graduating, I was eager to return to my hometown of Nashville, where I quickly received two job offers. In a remarkable turn of events, before I was even licensed, a Judge allowed me to serve as a second attorney on a high-stakes wrongful death jury trial—a pivotal moment in my early career. After just six months of working for another attorney, I launched my own practice, focusing primarily on Social Security law in Memphis, TN. My commitment to advocating for clients has led me to successfully handle over 10,000 cases, spanning both criminal and civil matters. Today, my firm, the Law Offices of Gerald Denny Waggoner Jr., has grown to include five talented attorneys and two locations, dedicated to providing expert legal representation and compassionate client service. With each case, I strive to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those I represent, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights protected.
