Gene Palmer Vaught, III is a distinguished attorney based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with over three decades of experience in personal injury law, wrongful death cases, and workers' compensation. A native of Horry County, Gene graduated from Conway High School before earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 1988. He furthered his education at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he graduated in 1991. After two years at Williams & Brink in Lexington, Gene returned to his roots in 1993, joining McCutchen, Mumford & Diggs. By 1996, he became a partner, and the firm evolved into McCutchen, Mumford & Vaught. In 2010, he took on the role of managing partner, leading the firm now known as McCutchen, Mumford, Vaught & Geddie, P.A. Gene's legal expertise extends to defective product cases and criminal law, showcasing his versatility in the field. A member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers' Association, the Horry County Bar, and the Injured Workers' Advocates, Gene has actively contributed to various committees focused on workers' compensation law. His commitment to legal education is evident through his long-standing involvement with the South Carolina Law Related Education program, where he has coached successful mock trial teams, achieving 8 Regional Championships and three State Championships. In recognition of his contributions, Gene was honored as the Law Related Education Lawyer of the Year by the South Carolina Bar in 2012. Outside of his practice, Gene is a dedicated family man, married to his wife Dawn, with whom he shares four children, and he remains engaged in local educational initiatives.
