About

Mr. Appel practiced with Long Aldridge & Norman (now McKenna Long & Aldridge) for fifteen and one-half years, first as an associate and the last eleven years as a partner. At Long Aldridge, Mr. Appel co-founded the Sports & Entertainment practice and represented principally sports and entertainment properties in revenue-generating opportunities and transactions. Mr. Appel represented local bidding and organizing committees which were successful in being awarded high profile national sports events for Atlanta, including the Super Bowl and the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Fours. Once the events were awarded, he worked on behalf of the local organizing committees with the National Football League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (as well as numerous business concerns in the Atlanta community) to assist with the presentation of the events. Among other matters on which he worked as a partner at Long Aldridge, Mr. Appel also worked with clients on arena and stadium financing strategies and plans. Mr. Appel’s practice with Appel & Peterzell, LLC continues to focus upon representing sports and entertainment properties in revenue-generating opportunities and transactions. He works with college athletic departments, college conferences, professional sports teams and leagues and sports event organizers on a wide range of transactions. In his work with collegiate properties, Mr. Appel has advised on and negotiated a wide range of transactions and opportunities, including those involving outsourcing of multi-media rights as well as broadcast (television and radio), licensing, Internet, title sponsor and other marketing rights and sponsorship transactions, and has represented event organizers on contractual and business matters related to their events.
