Doug earned his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in 2008. Before law school, he attended University of Kansas, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies in 2004. Before joining the Topeka, Kansas divorce and family lawyers at Stange Law Firm, Doug spent over a decade as an Assistant Attorney General with the Kansas Department of Revenue’s Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Division. In this role, he served as legal counsel to the ABC Director, prosecuted administrative cases, and represented the agency in appeals under both the Kansas Administrative Procedure Act and the Kansas Judicial Review Act. Doug also drafted official policy memoranda to clarify complex or ambiguous legal positions. In addition to his litigation and advisory duties, Doug played a central role in legislative affairs for the agency. He drafted legislative testimony and collaborated with lawmakers and industry stakeholders to advance meaningful regulatory reform. His outreach efforts included conducting training seminars for licenses, creating educational handbooks, and developing plain-language materials to explain legal requirements clearly and concisely. Doug also managed social media communications and routinely met with licensees and business owners to help guide them through regulatory challenges. Doug is a skilled communicator with a deep understanding of statutory and administrative law. His ability to adapt his message to diverse audiences, whether in the courtroom, in front of lawmakers, or in everyday client conversations, ensures that those he represents always understand their rights, responsibilities, and options.
