A native of Aiken County, Deirdre earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina in 1984, followed by her Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987. She has been licensed to practice law in South Carolina since November 23, 1987. Deirdre's legal journey began at the renowned law firm of Bellamy, Rutenberg, Copeland, Epps, Gravely, & Bowers, P.A. in Myrtle Beach, where she honed her skills in estate planning, probate, corporate law, tax, business law, and elder law over a decade. From 1997 to 2001, she continued to expand her expertise at the law firm of Kathryn Cook DeAngelo, focusing on estate and disability planning, elder law, and probate matters. In November 2002, Deirdre was elected as the Probate Judge for Horry County, a position she held until January 2015 after being re-elected in 2006 and 2010. Her extensive experience in the probate court has provided her with unique insights that benefit her clients in estate planning and probate processes. Deirdre is an active member of several professional organizations, including the South Carolina Bar, where she engages with the Probate, Estate Planning and Trust section and the Elder Law Committee. She is also involved with the Horry County Bar Association, the Grand Strand Area Estate Planning Council, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). Her leadership roles have included serving as President of the South Carolina Association of Probate Judges and participating on the Probate Judges Advisory Committee at the request of the Hon. Jean Toal, Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. Outside of her professional endeavors, Deirdre enjoys a fulfilling family life with her husband of over 28 years and their three daughters, including twins Jessie and Katherine, and their youngest, Aubrey.
