Cori Flanders is an attorney with Microsoft in the Federal Tax Controversy group. She focuses her practice in the areas of federal and state tax controversy. With over ten years of tax controversy experience, Cori Flanders has worked with compliance issues, defended legal positions inside and outside of the court room, and written legal opinions supporting various tax positions. In working with the IRS at all levels, and the Department of Justice, she has developed strong skills in successfully defending federal tax positions and mitigating adverse tax consequences for her clients. In the spring, she teaches Tax Crimes: Investigations, Prosecutions and Penalties at the University of Washington School of Law. The class focuses on awareness of seemingly innocent conduct that can result in legal violations. Ms. Flanders is a frequent lecturer on federal tax updates and has lectured on various other tax topics. Cori Flanders serves as the President of the Washington State Bar Association Tax Section for the 2013-2014 term. She graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in economics and received her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. She also received her Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law, from which she graduated magna cum laude. Ms. Flanders is admitted to practice before the courts of Washington State, the United States Tax Court, the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington and District of Colorado, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits, and the United States Court of Federal Claims.
