Corey James Mackinnon is a dedicated attorney based in Marion, North Carolina, and the founder of MacKinnon Law. Before pursuing his legal career, Corey served nearly a decade as a police officer with the UNC Charlotte Police Department and the Mooresville Police Department. His extensive law enforcement experience includes roles as a road officer, field training officer, SWAT/SERT member, and detective, equipping him with a unique perspective on criminal defense. While attending law school, Corey gained valuable experience through internships with the Recording Industry Association of America, the Iredell County District Attorney's Office, and the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina. After earning his law degree, he joined the U.S. Army as a Judge Advocate, serving at Fort Benning, Georgia. In the Army, Corey held roles as a military prosecutor and a Special Assistant United States Attorney, where he successfully prosecuted over 20 felony cases, ranging from drug offenses to sexual crimes against children. Having returned to McDowell County after more than 12 years, Corey is excited to serve the community he calls home. At MacKinnon Law, he specializes in criminal defense, real estate, and personal injury law, ensuring that his clients receive the best possible representation. In his personal life, Corey resides in Nebo with his wife, their two children, and IzzyBelle, their beloved English bulldog.
