Chris Wachtler has been litigating civil and criminal cases in Minnesota and Wisconsin since 1996. Chris served as a prosecutor in Pine and Washington counties at the outset of his career, trying misdemeanor and felony cases for five years before entering private practice with a firm in St. Paul in 2001. In May, 2013, he opened the Wachtler Law Office at 831 Como Ave. in St. Paul, which is also the home of the St. Paul Police Federation. Chris handles a broad range of cases, including labor and employment cases, personal injury cases, professional licensing actions, and appeals. A major focus of Chris’ practice involves representing public sector employees and unions involved in disputes with local units of government as well as the state of Minnesota. He also appears regularly before the Minnesota Board of Nursing, representing registered nurses threatened with discipline. Besides litigating civil and criminal cases in district courts in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, Chris has represented clients in numerous labor arbitration hearings, veterans preference hearings, civil service hearings before the Minneapolis and St. Paul Civil Service Commissions, and other types of administrative proceedings. His representative clients include the Woodbury Police Officers Association, St. Paul Police Federation, the Police Officers’ Federation of Minneapolis, Law Enforcement Labor Services, IAFF local 21 (St. Paul Firefighters), the Minnesota Nurses Association and the Minnesota Conservation Officers Association.
