Carol Applegate, BSN, MSEd, MSN, JD, is a certified family mediator, registered nurse, and an experienced elder law attorney. After 20 years in the healthcare field, Carol returned to law school and received her Juris Doctorate from the Thomas Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University, a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from the University of Indianapolis and a Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University. Carol established Applegate Elder Law in 2009 and has dedicated her practice to the care of the elderly. The combination of her nursing and legal education has given her insights into the family challenges faced by her clients. Her background assists her in providing a more holistic approach when dealing with families in crisis and planning for the future, especially when planning for end of life. Her practice areas include Life Care Planning, Estate Planning, Long-term Care Planning, Medicaid and VA Benefits, guardianships, probate, trust administration, and elder advocacy. She is also a VA accredited attorney. As a separate entity of Applegate Elder Law, Carol founded The Voice of Aging, which advocates for the aging population and those who care for them. The Voice of Aging provides information and resources to support elders and their caregivers. The Voice of Aging produces Caring for the Caregiver, an annual conference addressing the needs of family caregivers coping with the physical, emotional and financial challenges of caring for a disabled or aging loved one.
