About
Alexander Rusek is an attorney with Foster Swift's Litigation practice group. Based in the firm's Lansing office, Alex’s practice focuses on complex mass action and class action civil litigation, business law & litigation, criminal law, and appellate law. Alex has represented established businesses, new businesses, non-profits, professionals, and individuals involved in multi-party, mass action, and class action litigation, including representing over 100 survivors of sexual assault in high profile cases. Alex has represented clients in complex state and federal criminal and civil matters across the State of Michigan and beyond. Not shy of being in the courtroom, Alex has tried numerous cases to verdict before juries and judges during bench trials. His trial experience includes complex business dispute cases, civil rights cases, and criminal cases (from drunk driving offenses to first-degree premeditated murder and other life-offense offenses). One of Alex’s most fulfilling moments as a lawyer came when one of his former clients was listed on the National Registry of Exonerations after Alex secured the dismissal of all homicide and firearm charges against the client following the reversal of the client’s homicide conviction. Alex’s unique experience allows him to assist clients involved in overlapping civil and criminal matters. With experience in high profile civil litigation with related concurrent criminal investigations and prosecutions, Alex is able to guide clients through some of the most challenging times in their lives when few other attorneys have the experience needed in both realms to effectively represent clients. These difficult situations can include state and federal regulatory investigations into business and other practices that could result in both civil litigation and criminal prosecutions. Recognizing that the law often lags behind modern technological advancements, Alex is also an advocate for the expanded use of technology to best assist his clients. Whether it is leveraging his tech background to better understand the subject matter of disputes or using it to evaluate and determine the most efficient and effective means of conducting eDiscovery, Alex is a proponent of using the latest resources to help his clients. As litigation surrounding technology, eDiscovery, data privacy, and data protection heats up, Alex is available to assist clients. Alex is a graduate of Oakland University and Michigan State University College of Law, cum laude. Alex is currently a Director of The Army of Survivors, Inc., board member and Treasurer of the Ingham County Bar Association, Past-President of the Ingham County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, Past-Chairperson of the Ingham County Board of Commissioners Equal Opportunity Committee, member of the State Bar of Michigan Litigation Section Governing Council, and member of multiple local and national bar associations. He has authored multiple articles that have appeared in American Bar Association publications, State Bar of Michigan Publications, and the Ingham County Bar Association’s BRIEFS.
