Alec Cannon began his legal career working as a Deputy Court Clerk for the 3rd District Juvenile Court in Salt Lake City. He then enrolled in law school at the University of Oregon, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. During his time in Oregon he clerked for two years for the U.S. Department of Justice's local U.S. Attorney's Office. As a law clerk, Alec represented the federal government in numerous misdemeanor criminal prosecutions and provided legal assistance to Assistant U.S. Attorneys on both felony criminal prosecutions, as well as civil matters involving federal government agencies. Upon graduating from law school, Alec returned to his native Salt Lake City where he clerked with the State of Utah's School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration before being hired as an associate attorney at the natural resources law firm Lear & Lear LLP. Alec has represented a number of oil and gas companies in litigation in state and federal courts, as well as in state and federal administrative agency proceedings. He has also prepared dozens of complex mineral title opinions for oil and gas companies. Alec joined the Rudd Firm in 2015 and advises clients on immigration matters, eviction actions, criminal defense cases, estate planning matters, and on aviation law as it pertains to the use of unmanned aircraft (i.e., drones).
