Alan S. Katkin is of counsel to the Chartwell Law Offices, LLP and serves as the Chairman of the New York Workers' Compensation Law Practice Group. He is a 1982 graduate of Brooklyn Law School and prior to that he pursued graduate studies in human anatomy and physiology at New York University Dental and Medical Schools. He received his Bachelor's degree in Biology from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. Mr. Katkin was a founding partner of the New York general practice law firm of Angiuli Katkin & Gentile, LLP in 1988 where he managed and directed the firm's workers' compensation, Social Security disability and employment law practices and assisted in managing the personal injury practice. In 2011 he left to form a new practice continuing in these areas of law and he was also appointed General Counsel of the New York City Fleet Livery Owners Association. Having devoted thirty years to the practice of Workers' Compensation Law he has represented virtually every entity involved in such claims including individuals, small and large businesses, self-insured employers, carriers, third party administrators, state agencies, uninsured employers and medical providers from the initial phases of the claim through the appeals level. He is noted for having litigated multiple complex occupational disease claims including many which emanated from the World Trade Center Disaster. Mr. Katkin is a past president of the New York Workers' Compensation Bar Association and currently sits on the Boards of Directors of the Society of New York Workers' Compensation Bar Association and the Richmond County Bar Association. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Workers' Compensation Division of its Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law section. In addition, he is a member of the Staten Island Trial Lawyers Association. A nationally known lecturer in the field of Workers' Compensation Law, he enjoys teaching and mentoring young attorneys and has authored multiple articles in this area. In spite of his very busy practice, Mr. Katkin still makes time to engage in pro bono and community services. He serves as an arbitrator for the small claims part of the Civil Court of the City of New York, is an appointed member of the Surrogate Decision Making Committee of the New York State Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities and serves on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Center of Staten Island as well as co-chairing its human resources committee, among other endeavors.
