Adrienne S. King, a distinguished attorney based in Hawaii, has dedicated her career to navigating the complexities of energy law and advocating for clients across various legal matters. Born in Detroit, Michigan, as the eldest of four siblings, Adrienne was inspired by her family's intellectual legacy—her father, an aeronautical engineer and professor, and her mother, a dynamic businesswoman. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Detroit in 1969, Adrienne boldly pursued a path less traveled for women at the time by enrolling in law school. In 1969, Adrienne was one of only two women in her law school’s inaugural class, where her passion for law flourished. She distinguished herself as the first female Articles Editor for the law review and contributed a significant article on school desegregation to the Journal of Urban Law. Her early career included a prestigious internship with the Wayne County Detroit Prosecutor’s office, where she honed her legal acumen under the mentorship of Patricia Boyle, later a justice on the Michigan Supreme Court. Relocating to Hawaii in 1972, Adrienne quickly made her mark as a trailblazer in the legal community. As one of the first women hired by the Honolulu Prosecutor’s office, she tackled an array of cases, achieving a remarkable conviction rate and becoming the first woman in Hawaii to successfully try a murder case. Her tenure in the City Corporation Counsel’s office solidified her reputation, as she led over two dozen trials with an impressive success rate and became the first woman to serve as Assistant Chief of the Trials Division. In 1985, Adrienne co-founded King & King, Attorneys-at-Law, with her husband, where they have since focused on family law, limited personal injury, and criminal defense. With her extensive background in law, Adrienne remains committed to providing expert legal representation and is recognized for her unwavering advocacy in complex cases, including serious criminal charges in both state and federal courts.
